Some are due to lack of oil changes,some due to lack of oil in engines and general wear and tear. This hopefully with help our customers to better understand the essential maintenance and frequent oil changes required using a quality engine oil.
This is an example of a timing chain setup on a BMW N47 and N57 diesel engine
Below is an example of what looks normal on a timing chain when the engine was partially stripped to be inspected after it was recovered into us.
The valve timing had jumped on this BMW N47 diesel engine simply due to the sprocket teeth wearing out. This can clearly be seen when it was removed, the chain simply had no teeth to hold onto and it slips round causing the engine to stop !!
This engine had already had a replacement timing chain and sprockets but inferior quality aftermarket parts had been used resulting in yet another failure.
